Picture of the Day (Day 65 - 28th November 2010)

We finally visited the Wonderful Land of Furniture for New Home Owners - that's right, we went to the greatest store on the planet. That one with the blue and yellow sign that immediately makes you think 'allen key'.
IKEA
I think Alesha put it best when she said "IKEA...I want to have its stylish yet affordable Swedish babies."
This picture is of my new bedside table (and new lamp), something I have been lost without since I got to America. I intended to take a photo of the store itself but I was so overcome with excitement once we got there that I completely forgot.
We got the exact right amount of things to fit in the car. We couldn't have bought anything else. More photos to come of our purchases.

Lisa's Bridal Shower.
I'm bending down and I'm still almost a head higher than the others!
Lisa (middle) was genuinely surprised when she walked in to the house to find her family and friends waiting for her. I don't know about anyone else, but when she got a bit teary, I did too!
Lisa's mum put on a fantastic spread of food, and Alesha had organised some games. My personal favourite was the one where Lisa had to answer questions about Brandon and any she got wrong, she had to put a piece of bubble gum in her mouth. The poor thing ended up with 9 pieces in there!
I hadn't seen Lisa since January so it was so awesome to see her. Next time we see her will be in Vegas in April and she will be looking stunning in a white dress!

On our way to Charlotte we stopped at a visitor centre/art gallery in Lexington.
It was decorated so beautifully inside for Christmas.

Ah, Turkey Day. Also known as Thanksgiving. The day where you can eat your weight in stuffing and noone looks at you funny.

We had planned to take advantage of 'Family Night' at the RBC Center and get tickets cheap - 4 for $38. But when we arrived those tickets were of course sold out. Half the group decided to go watch the game at a bar, but Paul, Heather, Clayton and I figured we'd driven all the way out there so we may as well stay and watch the game.
We bought the next cheapest tickets - still pretty pricey at $30 each - which were way up in the gods. In fact, we were 4 rows from the back.
Turns out that I actually like being up that high. I can see more of the game, and, most importantly, where the puck is.
Unfortunately, the Canes went down to the Capitals 3-2. But we made the most of the $1 hot dogs so it wasn't all bad. (Except maybe for the kid in front of me who kept turning around to stare at me. I don't think he liked me cheering for Ruutu.)

I love wrapping Christmas presents!

Picture of the Day (Day 59 - 22nd November 2010)

It's not actually cold outside but looking at this tree makes me feel chilly. Winter is coming, unfortunately.

Roast veggies with rosemary for dinner. Yummy!

Picture of the Day (Day 57 - 20th November 2010)

Blue cocktails with Libby.
Not the greatest ones we've ever made, but they sure hit us hard!

Picture of the Day (Day 56 - 19th November 2010)

Today Paul's Dad and I got into the Christmas spirit and did some paint touch ups for their outdoor decorations.

Chinese takeaway - yummy! But also disappointing because we were only given one of the little Chinese boxes.

We finally took the protective plastic covering off our laptop...only for Paul to put his grubby fingerprints all over it.

Santa knows how much I love him - he sent me a message (above)
Christmas is coming!

Keith after finishing his marathon in just over 4 hours. He's holding the sign I made for him.
So proud of you!

Picture of the Day (Day 40 - 3rd November 2010)

Beer tasting at James Joyce in downtown Durham with Paul, Clayton and his friend Andrew.
Tonight was dark beers - porters and stouts - so I was happy.
The first 5 were great; the last one, not so much.
Now when I say we had 6 beers, they aren't full pints or schooners. We get given the glass above - which we get to keep - and it only holds about half a schooner.

Mmmm Butter Chicken for Supper Club - with pappadums!

Picture of the Day (Day 38 - 1st November 2010)

We celebrated Phil's return to Raleigh with Monday Night Trivia.
You know, something new and original.

Picture of the Day (Day 37 - 31st October 2010)

Happy Halloween!
Today we had a party/get together at our place. We started in the early afternoon so that everyone could get back to their houses in time for trick or treaters.
We roasted hotdogs and marshmallows on the firepit, and I also made BBQ pulled pork in the slow cooker.
This was my first time carving a pumpkin - it's not as fun as you'd expect. The carving part is ok; I wasn't so much a fan of the 'pulling out the pumpkin guts' part!
We didn't have that many trick or treaters - maybe 15 or so - so each kid got lots of treats from us! We still have leftover chocolate bars and Tootsie Rolls though, so Paul's happy.

(Above is my pumpkin. 'ICED' is kind of a drinking game here. If someone presents you with a Smirnoff Ice, you have to scull it straight away - unless the person being Iced has one on them to present back to the Icer. Then the Icer has to drink both. If you refuse, you can never Ice someone or be Iced ever again. That is the option I will take if I'm ever Iced! You can be Iced anywhere, anytime. It's not a fun game to play, but very fun to watch!)

Picture of the Day (Day 36 - 30th October 2010)

We drove down to Wilmington for the CAA Cross Country Championships.
Both teams came 6th, with one of the female runners getting an individual 6th and All-Conference.
We had to head back to Raleigh in the afternoon for the Carolina Hurricanes game (that would be ice hockey). They lost 3-0, and I waited all game for my favourite player - Ruutu - to get into a fight. He finally did - with less than a minute to go.
