We left at 6:30am to drive up to New Jersey to Aunt Mare's house.
She was due home from work at about 5pm and we were making really good time and would have been there a couple of hours before she would so we decided to make a stop in Philadelphia. It's on the way so it wasn't a big detour.
Neither of us had visited before but it is a big part of America's history so we knew there would be a lot to see. Unfortunately, parking costs an arm and a leg in Philly so we had to keep our visit short. We decided to narrow down our sightseeing list to Benjamin Franklin's Grave and the Liberty Bell, with enough time to grab a genuine Cheesesteak before our parking limit was up.
Franklin is buried in the Christ Church Burial Ground, along with other signers of the Declaration of Independence including Joseph Hewes, who was the North Carolina delegate.
The Liberty Bell is free to see and is in a small museum that tells you a bit about its history and how it got the crack. We wanted to lick it, of course, but security doesn't like that too much.
Our Cheesesteaks were amazing. Although I'm yet to have a Philly Cheesesteak that wasn't amazing.
