Get out your autograph books people. I'm famous.
It began a relatively normal day in New Jersey. Little did we know that we would soon be movie stars, sharing the screen with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy.
Paul and I took the PATH into NYC and wandered around the city for awhile, taking in Macy's Christmas displays and strolling through the stalls at Bryant Park. We met up with Meagan at Rockefeller Center, and got some drinks (me & Paul) and food (Meagan - food shamed) at Shake Shack.
We were taking it fairly easy, making our way to Meagan and Grant's apartment on the Upper West Side.
As we neared Columbus Circle, near Central Park, we could see some Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons. Meagan had mentioned earlier that she had seen a movie being filmed there the day before and they'd had the Snoopy balloon out.
We headed over to investigate and found ourselves being begged by the director (who I believe was Brett Ratner) to star in his movie 'Tower Heist'. We're pretty modest people and told him thanks, but we didn't want to take the limelight away from everyone else. Casey Affleck is having a hard enough time getting his name from out of Ben's shadow as it is. But he insisted, so we agreed to be in a crowd scene, cheering on the parade.
Meagan and I were singled out to get balloons (Paul has enough star quality without one) and so began our movie careers as 'Woman in Crowd with Balloon #1', 'Woman in Crowd with Balloon #2', and 'Man in Crowd with Orange Jacket'.
They filmed a marching band for a little while, then came the big 'crash scene'. Apparently a truck is supposed to crash through the parade but one of the other extras told us that the day before, a policeman had nearly been hit by the truck and so they were using a motorcycle instead and would add in the truck in post-production.
The bike and camera went right past us. We had to look shocked but 'act natural' (thanks for the tip, Boom Mike Guy). After a few takes, the sound department took over and recorded us cheering for awhile.
And that was that. We hit up the Christmas markets nearby for a little while, then, as we headed back to the apartment, we saw them filming again in Trump Tower. They sent a helicopter looking for us to do some more scenes but we're happy to be anonymous. Those fans can get crazy.
We had some pre-dinner drinks at the Gill-McHattie apartment (which, by the way, is GORGEOUS) then headed out to dinner at a cute place called Good Enough To Eat. Great comfort food.
We ducked across the street afterwards to get some photos at Cafe Lalo, which appears in 'You've Got Mail'. It's in the scene where Meg Ryan is waiting with a rose for Tom Hanks to show up for their blind date, not knowing that she already knows him.
And that is the story of our big screen break. Please, people, no more pictures.
